Recovery: Stabilize, Mobilize, and Energize Your People

This crisis has brought a level of uncertainty like nothing many of us have ever seen.
Your people are going through a myriad of emotions that need to be addressed by the you, the leader.
First Stabilize your team.
Communicate, communicate, and then communicate a little more. What you say is crucial and how often you communicate is equally crucial. Although there are businesses that will come out this crisis in better condition than when they went in, most businesses will be looking at a “Survive, then Thrive” scenario. To stabilize your team, you need to construct a message that encourages, inspires, and keeps your team focused on the next goal.
Mobilize your team.
Strategically giving your team goals, strategies, and tactics to execute during any cycle in business is good management. Giving your team goals, strategies and tactics are needed more than ever. It may be that your team is not back to work yet, but it is not too early to start putting a plan in place for when things open back up. Communicate the plan to your team so that they can be ready to go and have something to look forward too. If you team is working, be sure to give your team an overview of the plan, and then follow up each day to see what course corrections or adjustments need to be made.
Energize your team.
Back to communication. Your encouraging words mean more than you think. Your ability to communicate a brighter future is one of the key things that will give your team energy, hope, and even excitement. Do not leave this part to your executive staff. This needs to come from you in person (or video). Walk the floor, talk with individual team members, make a video call, ask how people are doing, encourage and energize them with your words. Encourage and energize them by showing up in person.
